Barnwell, South Carolina has a population of 22,490 (2016). Of those 22,490, a staggering 36.2% are at or below the poverty line. That is over 8,000 souls living in poverty and going hungry in our beautiful county.
These numbers can be daunting for individuals like you and me who want to see our county and her residents thriving. However, daunting does not equal hopeless.
We at the Barnwell Community Soup Kitchen are honored to have been given the charge of providing meals that fill hungry stomachs and creating an atmosphere where we can fill hungry souls with the Good News of our Lord & Savior.
God is passionate about helping others & if we call ourselves His people, then we should reflect Him, His heart and His passion.
By providing a meal and feeding their hunger we create opportunities to introduce our guests to God and the Good News of His Salvation.
We have very dedicated volunteers that sacrifice their talent & time to make this Ministry the success that it is.
“How Can I Help?”
The very best way that you can help is to Give of Yourself. Here are some ideas for you to consider:
Scripture tells us that we will always have the poor with us, and it is our duty to care for them and offer them the Hope of the Gospel (Deuteronomy 15:11 and Matthew 11:5b)
How will you help the needy & less fortunate in Barnwell? Will you make a monetary donation in honor or memory of a loved one? Will you commit to helping in the kitchen one or two days a month? Will you offer your talents as a pianist to bring music to the dining room as folks eat? There’s a place for everyone to serve. Give the Gift of You this year!
As the Barnwell Community Soup Kitchen moves forward - growing, gaining traction, and serving more and more people each week - we are excited to extend this invitation to you. Join us in this noble cause to feed the hungry and give hope to those living in less-than-desirable circumstances.
You may start out thinking that you are going to be a blessing to someone & you would be correct, however, it won’t be long before you realize that you are the one being Blessed.
On behalf of the Barnwell Community Soup Kitchen, thank you for your support. Your contributions make all the difference! May God Bless You!

FBC Barnwell partners with The Barnwell Community Soup Kitchen by serving meals on Fridays. The BCSK prepares and serves meals in the Activity Center located on the FBC Campus.
CANS for CANS is an initiative that harnesses the good stewardship of recycling to benefit the ministry of serving others by feeding the hungry.
Partnering with CANS for CANS is simple:
Save your aluminum waste and bring it to the collection trailer at 21 Allen Street across from CVS in Barnwell.
This trailer is a public receptacle for aluminum cans and other aluminum waste. The collected aluminum is taken by volunteers to a recycling facility which pays fair cash amount for the metal.
The aluminum collected annually exceeds, 4,000 lbs (on average). The income generated by that recycling is then used to buy more than 2,000 lbs of food for the soup kitchen!
We know that you might want to be more involved than just being a part of the recycling. If this is a project that you, your business, your group, or your church wants to be a bigger part of, then there is a place for you!
By having a common and steady funding source, we can keep the Barnwell Community Soup Kitchen supplied with the basics that can be used by all soup kitchen volunteers to better serve our local Barnwellians.
